EYE AESTHETIC TREATMENTS

What is Orthoptics?

Orthoptics involves the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of eye conditions that affect eye movement, coordination, and alignment. In addition to managing functional visual issues, orthoptics can also offer cosmetic solutions for improving the appearance of the eyes.

Various conditions associated with orthoptics

Conditions

Strabismus: Misalignment of the eyes, such as cross-eyes or wall-eye.

Amblyopia: Lazy eye, where one eye has reduced vision due to improper use.

Binocular Vision Disorders: Conditions where the eyes do not work together as a team.

Convergence Insufficiency: Difficulty focusing on nearby objects.

Eye Movement Disorders: Issues such as nystagmus (involuntary eye movements).

Types of Orthoptic Treatments

Treatments

Vision Therapy: A customized, supervised program to improve eye coordination and strengthen eye muscles.

Eye Exercises: Tailored exercises designed to improve eye movement, focus, and tracking abilities.

Prism Lenses: Used to help align the eyes or correct visual imbalances.

Surgical Intervention: In some cases, surgical procedures may be required to correct severe misalignment or structural issues.

Cosmetic Enhancements: Treatments like blepharoplasty or other non-invasive procedures for aesthetic improvement of the eyes.

Orthoptic Surgery

What to expect?

Before the Procedure

A thorough eye examination will assess both functional and cosmetic concerns.

For cosmetic treatments, discussions will focus on desired outcomes and the most suitable approach for achieving the best results.

During the Procedure

Vision Therapy: Involves guided exercises and therapies to improve coordination and reduce discomfort.

Eye Exercises: Often performed with minimal discomfort and can be adapted for at-home use.

Prism Lenses or Eye Patches: Fit comfortably and correct visual imbalances without interfering with everyday activities.

Surgical and Cosmetic Procedures: Performed under local anesthesia or sedation, with short recovery times.

After the Procedure

Recovery time varies based on the treatment, but most cosmetic and functional improvements are seen within weeks.

Follow-up appointments ensure that results are maintained and that any adjustments are made as needed.

For cosmetic treatments, minimal downtime allows patients to return to regular activities soon after the procedure.

Outcomes

Improved Eye Alignment: Orthoptic treatments help correct misalignment and enhance visual performance.

Better Visual Function: Enhanced ability to focus, track, and process visual information.

Aesthetic Improvements: Cosmetic treatments help refine the appearance of the eyes, addressing issues such as drooping eyelids or excess skin.

Reduced Strain and Discomfort: Treating conditions like convergence insufficiency or nystagmus reduces discomfort and visual strain.

Increased Confidence: Cosmetic treatments can enhance self-esteem and improve overall well-being.
